Center For Discovery's mission is to provide the best, most effective, treatment for our clients. To this end, we measure our eating disorder research by examining the process of treatment, how our clients fare post-discharge, and their need for readmission.
Since 2009, Center For Discovery has been collecting admission and discharge data on all of our adult clients with eating disorders. Recently we teamed up with North Shore LIJ and the Feinstein Institute for Biomedical Research to analyze our data.
Since Center For Discovery began treating eating disorders at our adult facilities in 2009, we have treated* over 320 clients at the residential level-of-care specifically tailored to adult needs. Of those clients, only 9.1% have readmitted to Discovery's residential eating disorder program anytime in the past 6 years. Examining readmission rates for specific time frames, 7.5% of our clients treated at an adult facility readmitted within one year of discharge, 7.2% readmitted within 6 months, 5.9% readmitted within 90 days, and 2.8% readmitted within 30 days of discharge. Such readmission rates are significantly lower than those typically found for a higher level-of-care for eating disorders, which can be as high as 62%*.
At Center For Discovery, we are driven to provide the most effective, evidence-based treatment experience ...and our results speak for themselves. Through all of our eating disorder research endeavors, we strive to continuously enhance our program, give confidence to clients and families regarding the decision to enroll, work with insurance companies for adequate length of treatment, and lead the field in understanding treatment for eating disorders.

According to a Norwegian study, elite athletes demonstrate significantly higher rates of EDs compared to population controls. In one study, 20% of elite female athletes met the criteria for having an ED, compared to 9% of female controls. In men, 8% of elite male athletes met the criteria for having an ED, compared to 0.5% of male controls.
Female athletes competing in aesthetic sports (e.g. dance, gymnastics and figure skating) were found to be at the highest risk for EDs. Athletes competing in weight-class and endurance sports were also at elevated risk for EDs.
